Sticker Care Guide: How to Make Your Vinyl Stickers Last Longer

Printful’s vinyl stickers are designed to be durable, vibrant, and high quality, making them perfect for decorating laptops, water bottles, journals, planners, and more. Whether you choose die cut stickers or kiss cut stickers, proper care will help preserve their color, adhesive strength, and overall look.

This sticker care guide explains how to make vinyl stickers last longer so you can enjoy your designs for as long as possible.

Understanding Printful Die Cut and Kiss Cut Stickers

Printful offers two popular types of vinyl stickers:

Die cut stickers are cut precisely to the shape of the design itself. They are great for bold standalone designs and look especially clean on laptops and notebooks.

Kiss cut stickers are cut through the sticker layer but not the backing paper. This makes them easier to peel and perfect for sticker sheets or multiple designs on one page.

Both options are printed on durable vinyl and are water-resistant, but they still benefit from proper handling and care.

Apply Stickers to Clean, Smooth Surfaces

For the best results, apply your vinyl stickers to clean, dry, and smooth surfaces.

Before applying, wipe the surface with a cloth or rubbing alcohol to remove dust, oils, or residue. Let it dry completely. Smooth surfaces like laptops, tablets, phone cases, notebooks, journals, and water bottles provide the strongest adhesion.

Avoid textured, uneven, or fabric surfaces, as these can cause vinyl stickers to lift or peel over time.

Allow Stickers to Set After Application

After applying a die cut or kiss cut sticker, allow at least 24 hours before exposing it to water or heavy handling.

This gives the adhesive time to fully bond to the surface and significantly improves how long the sticker stays in place.

Hand Wash Items With Stickers

Their vinyl stickers are water-resistant, but hand washing is always recommended.

If your sticker is on a water bottle or container:

  • Wash gently with mild soap and lukewarm water

  • Avoid scrubbing directly over the sticker

  • Do not soak for long periods

Dishwashers and prolonged heat can weaken the adhesive and reduce the lifespan of vinyl stickers, even high-quality ones.

Avoid Excessive Heat and Sun Exposure

Direct sunlight and high heat can cause vinyl stickers to fade or warp over time.

Do not leave sticker-covered items in hot cars or near heat sources. For laptops and tablets, avoid placing them in direct sunlight for extended periods. Indoor use will always help stickers last longer and stay vibrant.

Protect Stickers From Scratching and Friction

Although their stickers are durable, frequent friction can cause wear.

Try not to place stickers in areas that rub constantly against bags, tabletops, or keys. Stickers placed on the back of laptops or notebooks generally experience less wear than those on edges or undersides.

Using a clear protective case or sleeve can help shield stickers from daily scratches.

Store Unused Kiss Cut and Die Cut Stickers Properly

If you are saving stickers for later use, store them flat in a cool, dry place.

Keep them away from humidity and direct sunlight. Avoid bending sticker sheets or stacking heavy items on top, especially for kiss cut stickers, as this can affect peeling and adhesion later.

Refresh or Replace Stickers When Needed

Over time, even well-cared-for stickers may show signs of wear. If a corner starts lifting, gently press it back down. If a sticker becomes heavily worn, replacing it on a fresh surface can help keep your collection looking clean and intentional.
